Intermittent injections of GnRH, which mimic the intermittent release of GnRH by the normal hypothalamus, will stimulate gonadotrophin secretion and lead to normal pituitary-testicular and pituitary-ovarian function in individuals with hypothalamic failure (Fig. 1.16). This application is clinically the most important of the hypothalamic hormones thus far and is widely used.
